Shell Wreath Tutorial

Materials Needed

  • Shells
  • Different Colored Nail Polish
  • Glue Gun
  • Glitter
  • Black Sharpie Marker
  • Silver Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Wreath Form

Step 1

Collect shells from the beach and clean in a sink of soapy water. To get them really clean you could add a little bleach, but skip this if doing with children. Allow to air dry.

Step 2

Paint the wreath in a color you choose, I decided to go with Martha Stewart sterling silver acrylic. Allow to air dry.

Step 3

Arrange Shells on Wreath to see what layout you prefer. I did this loosely but you could mark the wreath where you want to place the shells with a marker.

Step 4

Take the shells and paint in desired color, I decided to match the color to that of the wreath. ( I love matching things)

Step 5

Start shaking your glitter on the shells , you have to do this quickly as acrylic tends to dry fast!Allow these a bit of time to dry before the next step.

Step 6

For me this is the fun part, now you can start applying irregular strokes of a chosen nail polish to shell surface for ‘leopard print’ effect. You can be as creative as you like here, applying lots of different colors if you wish. Once again allow some time to dry. * on the wreath in the picture I used

Step 7

Once the shells have dried, take your black marker and outline the irregular shapes you created with the nail polish

Step 8

You are ready to start gluing your shells on the wreath in the spots you wish. Allow to dry * I used a twig style wreath so remember to use plenty of glue at the contact points so the shells don’t fall off.

Step 9

Hang in the place of your desire and enjoy or give as a gift to a special someone !
